The bright lure of freedom by astarayel The bright lure of freedom by astarayel
To have the Tesseract, to have power, unlimited power.

Another Loki piece that just wouldn't leave me alone until I painted it. Based on a scene in The Avengers, which continues to be my current favorite movie.

As you can likely tell, the background pays homage to one of my favorite, and one of the most well-known, artists here on dA, `alicexz, whose use of colors and contours constantly blows my mind.

I spent an enormous amount of time working on this piece, really looking to push myself on the realism and details of it. I'd love to hear your comments and critique!

A very well executed piece of art. and I like the way he is looking away without making an eye contact with the viewers, making him look like he's hiding something.

Positives: The details on the armour is extremely well done down to the little triangular texture details around the shoulder. Lighting on the character is appropriate, having half of his face covered in bluish shadow, again creating the mood of the character hiding something.

Things to improve upon: The proortion is a little off - his left shoulder appears a lot wider than the right one. The vertical lines on the background, while being interesting effect, distracts from the main character, also the colours you used on the background is too close to the tones/colours of the character. The hair also appears a little too stiff.

Overall, it is an excellent painting of Loki, and I like it very much. :)

So, finally having the time to comment. Because this is amazing. Amazingly realistic, on one hand. It looks like Tom Hiddleston/Loki, whichis something hard to achieve, I think. He has a complicated face. And I did recognize the scene, yet you have it your own touch, especially through the background and the lighting/shading. I also love the overall colour-scheme of the picture, from the background (which has such a beautiful mood) to the blazing quality of his eyes. His eyes do stand out in the picture, overall. I love how they have some deepness and a shine to them. I don't even want to imagine how long it took you to paint this, will the tons of colours and you used and the many details you considered, especially in his clothes. Just that zipper would have driven me nuts. Not to mention the faint pattern on his shoulders. I could stare at this picture forever and constantly see a new detail.
And then there's the title. How i love it! It adds such a melanchonic feel to all of it. I'm amazed. Thank you for sharing this.

Thank you so much again! Now I'm going to be the repetitive sounding one :)

You don't know how happy this makes me. I sincerely appreciate the time you took to look at all the details (which I definitely slaved over, and am very proud of).

Thank you, thank you, thank you, friend. :huggle:

Entirely my pleasure, in every way. I'm happy that I can look at such skilled art. And I think your eye for the detail might be what draws me to your art so much. :)

How can your computer dare to stand between you, your talent and the amazing? D: He shall pay for that crime!
Seems that I'm kind of lucky that there's much in your galery still left for me to comment on until a magic solution to that problem comes you way. Because there will be one. The universe won't let you not-paint after giving you thy magic!  :magicdance: (....am I overdoing it yet....? .... nah!)

This is super cool! Have you done any paintings of Thor or the other Avengers? I'd like to see your take on Thanos.

I've got a Thor, Black Widow, and Iron Man in the gallery! Still need to do Bruce and Hawkeye...

Oooh, I hadn't even thought of doing Thanos, but that would be awesome! Unfortunately I'm on a digital hiatus until I get a new computer, but I'll definitely start doing some research. :)
